Maxi Length Evening Primrose

Let’s turn the already wonderful Evening Primrose into a maxi length dress!

Let’s start by gathering our pattern and fabric. We wont be using the underskirt for this tutorial so you wont need that.

For the new skirt piece. You want to lay the original piece on your fabric on the fold and add the length you want to make it maxi length. I added 13” to mine for my size 6. Do this for both the front and back of the skirt pieces.

Your new piece should look like the drawing below. The red line is your new cut line.

You will also need to cut a 2” by 2.5” rectangle.

Follow the instructions as written until you get to the top of page 8.

Instead of the skirt lining attaching to the bodice lining. You will take your 2”x2.5” rectangle and serge around the two long sides and one short side.

Find the middle of the square and the middle of the bodice lining.

Place the square wrong side to the linings right side. Stitch all the way across using a 3/8” seam allowance.

Place the lining bodice and main bodice right sides together matching shoulder seams.

Stich around the inside neck opening.

Find the center of the back lining piece and draw a line extending 1” past the seam onto the square.

Stich 1/4” away from that line creating a curve at the bottom.

Follow the instructions in the pattern for the next steps through page 12.

Now since we don’t have a lining piece we aren’t going to sew it to the front lining bodice. Instead we are just going to finish the edge of the bodice front lining with a 3/8” seam allowance.

Finish your dress per the instructions and you’ve got yourself an adorable new Maxi dress for your girl! Can’t wait to see your creations!

Happy Sewing.
